미국 유타주 Salt Lake City에 위치한 Community College로써 일반적으로 유타지역에 있는 4년제 대학을 준비하는 학생들에게는 교양과목 학점을 매우 잘 받을 수 있는 좋은 조건을 가지고 있다.

 

유타지역에 있는 4년제 대학을 준비하는 학생의 절반 정도가 Salt Lake Community College를 거쳐간다고 해도 과언이 아니다.

 

 일반적으로 알려진 과정은 Salt Lake Community College에서 본인이 전공하고자 하는 전공 교양과목을 4년제 학교보다 많이 싼 등록비용으로 모두 마친뒤 4년제 3학년으로 편입을 하는 과정이다.

그렇다고 해서Salt Lake Community College의 학교레벨이 낮은것은 아니다.

어느 특정 외국 사이트에서 Community College 랭킹을 조사해본 결과로는 미국 내 Community College로써 상위권에 속해 있는 대학이다.

 간호학, 비지니스, 회계학, PILOT, Salt Lake Community College에는 학교 부설 어학원(ESL)도 운영한다.

 

토플(173점)이나 SAT 성적이 낮더라도 학교 자체에서 운영하는 어학연수를 이수하고 학교 자체에서 실시하는 시험(CPT)을 통과 하였을 경우 그리 어렵지 않게 학부 입학을 할 수 있는 기회가 있다.

WELCOME to English-As-A-Second Language!     We are a comprehensive, intensive ESL program, from beginning through college preparatory levels.  Beginning through Level 3 Pre-College Workshop is offered through the School of Applied Technology; Level 4 College ESL is offered through Developmental Education. International (I-20) students are assessed an additional $40 administrative fee per semester. LEVEL 4 - DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION     Introduction     Level 4 College ESL is intended to prepare students for college level courses and is given college credit.     Students must have a minimum LOEP score of 72 (LOEP 72-83), or a TOEFL score of 133-172/>450.      The LOEP is a computerized test used to place students into Level 4 or other Developmental Education classes.  It consists of three sections (Reading Skills, Sentence Meaning, and Language Use) and the average of those sections is used to give a total score for placement.      Below 72: Skills Center ESL (take the CASAS)     72- 83:  Level 4     84 and above:  Reading 0900     Schedule     The required classes are:         ESL 1010 College Listening and Speaking (7 credits) and         ESL 1020 College Reading/Writing (8 credits).      Highly recommended ESL classes of 3 credits each include:         ESL 1030 Conversation         ESL 1040 Grammar         ESL 1050 Vocabulary         ESL 1060 Pronunciation         ESL 1070 TOEFL Prep         ESL 1080 Business English       ESL 1900 Special Studies (4 credits)     Please check with the current class schedule for exact times and locations.     Tuition and Fees     Tuition for full-time (12-18 credit hours) enrollment for one semester is $1,466.00.00 for residents and $4,586.00 for non-residents.     New students are charged a $40 non-refundable application fee ($75 for I-20 International students).  International students are assessed an additional $40 administrative fee per semester.   Salt Lake  Community College 기숙사

 

학교 기숙사는 운영하지 않기 때문에 학교 주변에 있는 아파트에서 생활하여야 한다. 이때 알아두어 할 부분중 하나는Salt Lake Community College 캠퍼스는 크게 3곳으로 나뉘어져 있다. 본인이 수업을 어디서 들을 것인지를 먼저 확인하고 본인이 수업을 들으러 가야 할 가까운 캠퍼스 위치에 아파트 문제를 해결하는것이 좋을 수 있다. Salt Lake City 주변 학교 캠퍼스에서 한달 아파트를 렌트하는데 드는 비용은 일반적으로 $300에서 $800 정도를 예상해야 한다. 때로는 학교 캠퍼스를 옮겨 다니면서 수업을 들어야하는 번거로움도 있기에 교통시설이 그나마 유타지역에서 잘 되있다는 Salt Lake City도 차없이 생활하기에는 약간 번거로울 수도 있다.
